Mountaineers win big against Miles
Submitted by Coach David Garcia
The Mountaineer bats came to life as they beat Miles in their 2nd district game. The Mountaineers were led by Sr. Christina Diaz as she went 4 for 4 in hitting. Along with her hits, she had 5 RBI's and scored 2 runs herself. Her stick was not the only one that seemed to get the job done. 11 out of the 13 Mountaineers at least got 1 hit during the game. Sr. Kindsey Holland and Soph. Briannah Sosa both recorded Triples in the game, which is one of the most difficult hits to get.
"It was just a great night of hitting. You can't really ask for much more than what the girls produced tonight. I am very proud of the great game the girls played tonight," stated Coach Garcia.
On the defensive side of the ball, the Mountaineers cut down on errors tremendously by only having 3 errors that all came in the bottom of the 1st inning. Jr. Genia Jones continued her "stingy hit" ways, only allowing 3 hits and striking out 11.
"When she is in her zone, not much can stop her. She is doing a great job, and I know she will have another great season."
The Mountaineers will host TLCA this coming Tuesday at 5pm.
See you at the game.

Mountaineers squeak by Winters
Submitted by Coach David Garcia
The Mountaineer softball team just got by Winters this past Tuesday for their first district win. The Mountaineers were led by Jr. pitcher, Genia Jones who had 11 strikeouts for the game. On the offensive side, Sr. Christina Diaz, was 3-5 in hitting and brought in the winning run for the Mountaineers.
"I told the girls that we needed to keep the ball on the ground. The winds were kicking up pretty bad, and any ball we popped into the outfield always seemed to hit a wall of wind and just drop. It was very frustrating," stated Coach Garcia.
The Mountaineers were in control of the game, but some major errors helped Winters get back in the game.
"You can't win games when you commit errors. They just seem to build after the first one. If we can cut down on the errors, we are going to be just fine for the rest of the season."
The Mountaineers will continue their district play this Friday as they travel to Miles. The game is scheduled to start at 5:30pm.
See you at the Game.
