Santa Anna Summer Band Practice Information for Grades 7-12
Hello. My name is Randy Hunsaker and I am the band director replacing Mr. Mitchell for the upcoming school year. From what I have heard and observed, I have some pretty big shoes to fill. The Santa Anna High School Band has quite a great reputation and has been very successful for the past several years with many great traditions. I hope to continue these traditions and pledge to work my best to lead this band on a path of continued success. I am really looking forward to getting to know you. I am also looking forward to supporting our football team as much as possible during the fall and wish them their continued success.
I would like to start our summer band program on Monday, August 12 at 11:30 in the morning. That will only give us 15 rehearsals before our first performance. Also, I would like to meet with the Drum Major and any upper classmen who can on Thursday, August 8th at 11:00 AM to discuss your traditions and goals for the year. I would like to use “Drill Instructors” to help teach the under classmen our marching fundamentals. So the schedule will be as follows:
Thursday, August 8 11:00am Drum Major and upper class- men, including those who want to help as drill instructors
Monday, August 12 11:30am Full Band Rehearsal
Tuesday, August 13 11:30am Full Band Rehearsal
Wednesday, August 14 11:30am Full Band Rehearsal
Thursday, August 15 11:30am Full Band Rehearsal
Friday, August 16 11:30am Full Band Rehearsal
We will rehearse the week of August 19th also, but I’m not sure of rehearsal times right now because of teacher in-service that week. Will let you know as I find out.
I hope this letter finds you enjoying the last part of your summer break. As said before, I am looking forward to meeting all of you and becoming part of the Santa Anna tradition of excellence.

SANTA ANNA GROUP RAISES FUNDS FOR BLANKET TEACHERS AFFECTED BY TORNADO
When the World Championship Bison Cookoff ended on May 18, the Mountain Mafia put over 70 pounds of barbecue in the freezer. The original intent was to sell the meat in a fundraiser for the group. Then the tornado hit the Blanket school and because a similar event happened in Santa Anna, workers knew that even though the school structures are covered by insurance, individual teachers lost personal teaching supplies not covered. The decision was made to put that meat to a good use, so the Mafia held a fundraiser meal---for Blanket teachers.
Guests enjoyed a wonderful meal from the barbecue provided by 47 of the best cookers in Texas that had entered the Bison Cookoff. The frozen meat was revived as sumptuous chopped barbecue. Teri and Gayland Edmiston provided the red beans, Santa Anna Grocery provided the buns and Tom’s Snacks provided the chips. Pickles, onions, and tea rounded out the fare--- all for the cost of a donation.
Due to the generous donations of those who attended, the Mountain Mafia raised $830 for the teachers of Blanket ISD. Blanket ISD counselor Brenda Tunnell was contacted to help disburse the funds to the teachers.
The Mountain Mafia would like to thank our generous community for the funds raised; the event would not have been a success without their support.
