Lady Mountaineers Fall to Lady Rockcrushers
The Santa Anna Lady Mountaineers fell to the Knippa Lady Rockcrushers 59-25 in the opening round of the Conferance 1A Division 2 Region IV Girls Basketball Tournament at Austin ISD's Burger Center Friday afternoon.
The Lady Rockcrushers went on to defeat one of their district competetors, the Nueces Canyon Lady Panthers, in the Final by a score of 41-31. The Lady Rockcrushers had defeated the Lady Panthers twice already this year, 69-46 and 57-51. The Lady Panthers made it to the Final on Saturday by beating the Rochelle Lady Hornets 41-29 just before the Santa Anna/Knippa Friday game.
Knippa will face Lipan in the Semifinal of the State Tournament at Frank Erwin Center in Austin later this week. The other two Conference 1A Division 2 teams in the State Tournament are Witharral and Neches.
Just a few personal words about it.. Knippa's good girl, Ashley Salazar, was real good!
I only got to watch the last three games but I am really proud of the Lady Mountaineers who played some real good basketball this year.
Regional Tournament Rules and Information
Victory lines on the court will not be allowed. Signs will not be allowed to be taped up anywhere. Noisemakers and megaphones are prohibited inside the gym. Handheld signs will be permitted.
The home team fans will sit in the bleachers directly behind the team benches. The HOME TEAM STUDENTS will sit behind their teams' bench only!
Admission prices: Adults $8.00 Student (school age)/Seniors $5.00
The Conferance 1A Division 2 Region IV Girls Basketball Tournament will be held a the Burger Center, 3200 Jones Rd, Austin TX.

The Lady Mountaineers will head to Austin Thursday February 24th for the Regional Semifinal game. The Lady Mountaineers will face the Knippa Rockcrushers Friday, February 25th at Austin ISD Burger Center, game time is 2pm. The Fire Dept. will be escorting the girls through town @ 9:00am tomorrow, please be downtown Santa Anna showing your support for these athletes!

Santa Anna Lady Mountaineers win Battle in Regional Quarter Final Playoff
The Santa Anna Lady Mountaineers came out gunning and never trailed the Huckaby Lady Indians. The Lady Indians rallied in the fourth quarter to tie it up but the Lady Mountaineers fought them off to win the game 48-43.

According to the UIL Playoff Bracket the Lady Mountaineers will take on Knippa in the Regional Semi-Final at Austin ISD's Burger Center this Friday February 25th at 2:00 PM.
The Rochelle Lady Hornets are coming up the same bracket after their 26-18 Quarter Final win over Evant Tuesay night in Goldthwaite. The Rochelle Lady Hornets will face Round-Top Carmin or Nueces Canyon in their Regional Semi-Final game that starts at 12:00 just before the Lady Mountaineers game also in Burger Center. The winners of those two games will face each other at 1:00 Saturday the 26th at Burger Center.

The Santa Anna Lady Mountaineers will face the Huckaby Lady Indians for Regional Quarter Finals Tuesday in Hamilton at 6:30. Tip-off is at 6:30 with tickets costing $5 dollars for adults and $3for students. Come out and support the Lady Mountaineers this Tuesday as they battle the Lady Indians of Huckaby!
*No District passes will be accepted.

Santa Anna Foundation Receives Approval For Texas Historic Cemetery Marker
An application for a Texas Historic Cemetery marker has been approved by the Texas Historic Commission on behalf of the Santa Anna Cemetery by the Santa Anna Foundation in cooperation with the Santa Anna Cemetery Association. The Santa Anna Foundation is an organization formed to promote historic and economic development in Santa Anna, as well as scholastic achievment by awarding scholarships to graduating SAHS Seniors in partnership with the Santa Anna Ex Students Association. The application was reviewed and approved at the November meeting of the Coleman County Historic Commission and forwarded on to the state for review and approval.
The Santa Anna Cemetery received Texas Historic Cemetery designation last year after the application process was completed by Santa Anna Foundation President James Pelton who is also now President of the Santa Anna Cemetery Association. The designation is prerequisite of the marker application.
The marker cost is $1600.00 and is not funded by the state so the Foundation is soliciting and accepting donations from anyone that is interested in participating in the project. By Texas Historic Commission policy donors can not be listed on the marker but will be recognized during the marker dedication ceremony.
Those that wish to donate to the Santa Anna Foundation or to the Santa Anna Cemetery Historical Marker project can send their donation to PO Box 3 Santa Anna TX 76878. Donations can also be sent to the Santa Anna Cemetery Association at PO Box 97 Santa Anna TX 76878. Either way, please note Historical Marker if that is what you want your donation to go for.
Officers of the Santa Anna Foundation are Rod Musick - Executive Director, James Pelton - President , Montie Guthrie III - Secretary, John Hensley - Treasurer, Betsy Jones, and Tom Guthrie.
Santa Anna Cemetery Association Board members are James Pelton - President, Pat Vance - First Vice President, Oma Dean Horner - Second Vice President, Coyita Bowker as Secretary Treasurer, John Pearce, Wanda Campbell, and David Karthauser.
The Santa Anna Lady Mountaineers traveled to Dublin to play Jonesboro for the Area round of competition. The girls started off a little slow, but sophomore Kinsey Holland stepped up and nailed a couple of 3 point shots to get the team going. Jonesboro outsized the Lady Mountaineers, but could not keep up their quick pace throughout the game. The Lady Mountaineers shot 65% from the line compared to Jonesboro’s 35%. The Lady Mountaineers defeated Jonesboro with a final score of 50-20. They will play Huckabay for the quarter finals in Hamilton on Tuesday at 6:30. Come support the Lady Mountaineers on their quest to the state tournament! The following girls contributed to the win:

The Santa Anna Lady Mountaineers defeated the Jonesboro Lady Eagles for Area last Friday in Dublin by a score of 50-30.
The Lady Mountaineers will take on Huckabay for the Regional Quarter finals game Tuesday at 6:30 in Hamilton.

COLLEGE FINANCIAL AID WORKSHOP
IN SANTA ANNA RESCHEDULED
The financial aid workshop scheduled for February 17 in Santa Anna has been rescheduled for February 24.
Ronny Barnes, of Panhandle-Plains Higher Education Authority, will be on hand to assist seniors and their parents in filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. The FAFSA is the qualifying instrument for the Pell Grant, which is the common starting point for all financial aid. The process should last approximately one hour, with time for individual help and/or questions to follow. Applications may be filled out using school computers. Refreshments will be provided.
The Coleman County Livestock Show Association will hold a workday to pickup the pens that were used during the stockshow in the Goree Expo Center on Monday, February 28th at 6:00 pm. Exhibitors and families are encouraged to attend and help out.

According to the Sunday Abilene Reporter News, KOXE Radio, and the SAISD website calender the Lohn Lady Eagles will take on the Zephyr Lady Bulldogs in Santa Anna Tuesday night at 6:30 in the first round of CLASS 1A DIVISION II Region IV playooff action.
The Zephyr Bulldogs vs Santa Anna Mountaineers will follow at 8:00.
The Lady Mountaineers have a bye until Friday and will take on the winner of the Jonesboro/Morgan game according to the UIL Playoff Bracket.
Icy roads caused the Lady Mountaineers to play several games back to back this past week. On Saturday, February 5th, they hosted the Mullin Lady Bulldogs. 49-13. They then turned around and played Panther Creek on Monday February 7th and ran away with a 77 to 24 victory! The Lady Mountaineers wrapped up district play on Tuesday, February 8th. They hosted the Brookesmith Lady Mustangs. The 69-29 victory completed their 12-0 district record. Sarah Herrod led scoring with a combination of 54 points followed by Kaitlyn Krause with 34 points and Loren Pritchard with 33 points. The Lady Mountaineers will play their first playoff game on Friday, February 18th. The team and location has yet to be decided.
Saturday’s make-up game against Mullin saw the Mountaineers with their best performance of the season. There were four players that were in double figures : Freshman Zack Diaz – 15, Sophomore Dakota Enriquez – 10, Freshman Michael Valencia – 15, and Senior Christian Washington – 16. We won the game 67-22. Tomorrow night (Tuesday) will be the last game of the season for the Mountaineers. They will play Zephyr at home.
