Santa Anna vs. Sterling City
I didn't make it to the game but the Mountaineers fell to the Sterling City Eagles by a score of 56-8.
Friday Night Lights
The Santa Anna Mountaineers will take on the Sterling City Eagles this Friday night, August 26th, in Sterling City with kickoff set for 7:30.
The Mountaineers are picked to fall by 45 to the 2010 Six Man Divison II State Runner Up. The 10-5 Eagles defeated the Mountaineers last year by a score of 52-0 and went on to fall to Richland Springs in the State Championship 46-0.
The Eagles are ranked #2 in Division II and picked to finish in first place in District 7 ahead of Loraine, Trent, and Westbrook. The Mountaineers come in at 57th in Division I and are picked to finish last in District 10 behind May, Zephyr, and Blanket.
Dave Campbell's 2011 Notes say: "Sterling City will try to get back to the state title game with the help of two first-team all-state RB's, senior RB Hunter Hughesand junior RB Cooper Hinderliter."
Get your Black and Gold on and gas up the car because it's a long way there and the Mountaineers are going to need a lot of support.
Coleman County Youth Activity Center
The Coleman County Youth Activity Center is offering an advertising opportunity to local businesses and individuals. The organization is selling sponsorship signs that will be placed in the Goree Expo Center and displayed year round. The Goree Expo Center is a large multi-purpose building that hosts many events throughout the year such as the Coleman County Fiesta de la Paloma, 4H and FFA county youth livestock shows, 4H youth shooting sports activities, goat and lamb sales, exceptional kids rodeo(for special needs children), and Farm Bureau Ag Day for county 3rd grade students to name a few.
This would give your company some good promotions as many people attending these events would see the signs. Sponsorship funds from the signs help the CCYAC provide these facilities for the youth and community activities in the county.
We are offering a 4X4 sign for $250, a 4X8 sign for $500 and a double sided banner that would hang down the center of the building for $1000 per year (from October 1, 2011 through October 1, 2012). A renewal of the sponsorship will be offered at the end of the sponsorship year. Please consider being a sponsor of this facility. If you wish to participate in this opportunity, please contact one of the committee members, which include: Mark Swening, Rodney Ivy, Dusty Greaves and Sarah Beal. Thanks for your interest in our facilities and community.
Coleman County Association of Texas Professional Educators would like to announce the recipients of the 2011 local unit scholarships. Three, $200 scholarships were awarded to county high school graduates from the 2011 classes from Coleman, Santa Anna and Panther Creek High Schools. The scholarships are to be awarded to education majors. This year’s recipients included Colt Jamison from Coleman High School. He is attending Ranger Jr. College with plans to be a secondary English teacher and basketball coach. Sarah Herrod, from Santa Anna, is attending McMurry University where she plans on completing a double major in Kinesiology and English so she can teach and coach. Jessica Jamison, a Panther Creek graduate is attending Texas Tech University and majoring in Education. Her plans are to get an all level certification and she wants to be an elementary teacher. The Coleman County local unit is proud of our local youth and are happy to award these scholarships to these county graduates and wishes them the best with their future plans.

They weren't quite as bad as we thought but they were still pretty low.

IS IT TIME TO FIRE CONGRESS?
Do you think it’s time to Fire Congress? Have you had enough yet? Are you as angry and concerned about what is happening to our country as I am? Are you tired of our Government’s non-stop assault on our Constitution, free market system, and the private sector people who make the country work? Have you had enough of this out of control spending and trillion dollar budgets? What about increasing unemployment—except for government jobs? What about ramming government run health care down our throats in the face of overwhelming American opposition? What about our of control spending, congress not listening to the American people, lack of common sense solutions and our wide open borders?
Our elected representatives are totally non-representative of their constituents—you and me—the people who elected them & pay their salaries.
Career politicians of both parties care more about their perks, their power, and their own reelection than they do about our country.
It is time to fire the career politicians who are destroying our nation, take the special interest money out of politics, and start holding our elected officials accountable. To learn how you can help, go to www.GOOOH.com.
GOOOH stands for ?GET OUT OF OUR HOUSE? – our House of Representatives. Pronounced as “GO.” GOOOH is not a third party; it is a nonpartisan plan to evict all 435 politicians from the U.S. House of Representatives and to replace them with every day citizen legislators. It will take the special interest money out of politics, break the stranglehold the two parties have on our system, fire the career politicians, and hold our representatives accountable.
Yes, We the People can fire every one of them, but we need your help. Your Country is counting on you. Contact GOOOH’s District 11’s representative at firstname.lastname@example.org or go to www.GOOOH.com for more information and become a member.
It is wtih great sadness that I tell you of the passing of Roeanna Barton of Santa Anna. Mrs. Barton lived to the age of 93 and lived in Santa Anna since 1947. She was married to Robert "Bubba" Barton and they had three children
Anyone that lived in Santa Anna the last 60 years that didn't know Bubba or Mrs. Barton certainly would have know one of their children, Roberta, Betty Ann, or Robert. Just like Bubba and Mrs. Barton, their children were all friendly, full of life and character.
See colemannews.com for a complete obituary.
Gone but not forgoten, Roeanna Barton.
