Santa Anna ISD State UIL competition

The math and calculator teams had great team scores and gained valuable experience at the state meet in Austin. Both of these teams improved their regional scores and the calculator team finished in 3rd place. In addition to the teams’ successes, Jaylie Jones placed 2nd in Calculator Applications among all 1A schools in Texas. This is an amazing accomplishment and a great way for Jaylie to finish her UIL academic career. Congratulations and thank you Jaylie, Mateo, Marin, Angie and Madi for being awesome representatives for Santa Anna.

Hartman Recognized in Duke University 7th Grade Talent Search

L to R: James Hartman, FISD Superintendent; Hayden Hartman; Robert Scott, FISD Board President

Hayden Hartman, a 7th grader at Ferris Junior High School, was recently recognized by the Ferris ISD Board of Trustees for earning National Recognition in the 2017 Duke University Talent Search.

Duke University’s Talent search identifies academically talented students across the United States through above-level college-entrance exams (the same exams taken by college bound high school seniors.) Duke University hosts a Grand Recognition Ceremony to honor the 7th graders with the highest ACT or SAT scores. Of 53,843 students who took the exams through Duke Talent Search, all of whom are in the 95th percentile in their grade level, Hayden was one of only 2,072 to be invited to the Grand Recognition Ceremony for his remarkable score results.

Hayden will recognized and awarded a medal of achievement at the National Ceremony held on May 22 at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina.

Hayden, the 12 year old son of James (SAHS ’89) and Tanya Hartman, is the grandson of Eddie (SAHS ’60) and Mary Ann Hartman, and the great-grandson of the late Edd (SAHS ’40) and Ruby (SAHS ’38) Hartman.

My Coleman County Telephone Coop rain gauge had 5 inches of rain overnight Saturday and Sunday morning. My weather station stopped at 3.53 Saturday night during the storm so it must have a leaf or bug in it. Maybe one of those golf ball sized hail stones is stuck in it.
