There will be many kids from the Santa Anna track team headed to state on May 10.
Briannah Sosa was the first one to punch her ticket at the 1A Division 2 Regional Track Meet held at Angelo State University. She started off the meet with a bang getting 2nd in the Discus. She has worked very hard all season, and expects to do well at the State Meet. It should be noted that she also earned 3rd place in the Shot Put, losing by just 4 inches and coming very close to making it in two events.
The boys’ 800 Meter Relay team will also be heading to Austin. Junior Lucas Diaz, Freshman Jacob Herrod, Junior Colby Nelson, and Senior Michael Valencia, and alternate, Junior Jedidiah Herrod, have had a very successful track season.
Colby Nelson also got 5th in the high jump and 4th in the 110 hurdles, while Michael Valencia got 6th in the triple jump.
Going to state is a dream for them, and we are very proud of all of the hard work put into such a grueling season. The relay team is also expecting to do well against the teams from the other regions.
Congratulations on such an outstanding season!
Lady Mountaineers Softball
The Santa Anna Lady Mountaineers climbed to #6 in the state softball ranking this week. We will play in Clyde for our Area game starting next Thursday. More details will be out shortly.
SANTA ANNA REPRESENTED AT REGIONAL LUNCHEON IN BAIRD
Santa Anna was represented at one of five network luncheons sponsored by Texas Midwest Community Network this spring. The luncheon was held at the Baird Activity Center on Walnut Street in Baird on Wednesday, April 16th. Immediately following lunch the discussion focused on the topic “Tourism IS Economic Development”.
An informational program was presented by Karen Wright, Executive Director for the Dublin Economic Development Corporation. She discussed tourism as a viable component of economic vitality and shared Dublin’s story of determination and discovery following the loss of one of its most prominent attractions – Dublin Dr. Pepper. Participants were then directed the group in an activity to discover each represented community’s authentic and contagious tourism aspects.
The idea of “authentic” and “contagious” represent the criteria Chet Garner, host of the PBS television series called “The Daytripper”, uses when selecting the communities to be spotlighted on his show. Each episode explores the back roads of Texas – bringing Texas to Texans. Mr. Garner feels strongly that “far too few Texans tend to explore all the amazing things that lie right in their own backyards”. For this reason, the luncheon exercise focused on those things that can only be experienced in each participating community as well as things that give visitors bragging rights and make they want to come back again and again.
Cities represented at the luncheon included Abilene, Albany, Aspermont, Clyde, Dublin, Eastland, Gorman, Merkel, Ranger, Santa Anna, Tye and Baird. The meal was catered by Vada’s Eats and Sweets.
Texas Midwest Community Network is a one-of-a-kind regional organization founded in 1994 for economic development, tourism development, regional awareness & promotion, and legislative awareness. It is an organization of “communities working together to accomplish what one community cannot do alone.” For more information about TMCN visit www.texasmidwest.org or the Texas Midwest Facebook page.
24 attendees gathered at the network luncheon held in Baird at the Baird Activity Center on Walnut Street on April 16th. Attendance came from Abilene, Albany, Aspermont, Clyde, Dublin, Eastland, Gorman, Merkel, Ranger, Santa Anna, Tye and Baird.
The attendee from Santa Anna was Mayor Harold Fahrlender.
